Wangyuh wants Da Vinci Code be banned
Kohima, May 19 (UNI) The lone Lok Sabha Member from Nagaland, W Wangyuh Konyak, has urged Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Das Munshi to ban screening of the movie ''The Da Vinci Code'' in the country, saying it was deeply offensive in nature and hurt the sentiments of the Christian community.
In a letter to the Union Minister on Wednesday, Mr Wangyuh said the movie depicted a false and irreverent portrayal of Jesus Christ as a man married to Mary Magdalene and having a progeny.
The movie has created wrong notions about Christianity and its teachings, thereby discrediting it among people of other religions, the letter said.
Mr Wangyuh argued that such movies belittle what is at the heart of Christian faith and cherished in Christian life and therefore was blasphemous and totally unacceptable to the Christian community.
He also urged Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to convene a special session of the State Assembly on the issue and ban screening of the movie in Nagaland or issue an official notification in this regard.
