Woman militant throws grenade; one killed in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) In the first ever such incident, a woman militant threw a hand grenade on a Central Rerserve Police Force (CRPF) picket in the downtown city today, klling a civilian and wounding two others.
CRPF spokesman Dilip Singh Ambesh told UNI that a woman militant threw the grenade from her white Maruti car on the Force's 107 battalion picket at Saraf Kadal in the downtown city at 1630 hrs this afternoon.
The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, resulting in injuries to three civilians, including a woman, the spokesman added.
Mr Ambesh said one of the wounded, Farooq Ahmed, a resident of Baghat-e-Kanipora in the city outskirts, was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition.
However, he died on way to the hospital, the spokesman said.
The banned Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
A caller, identifying himself as Jaish spokesman Abu Qadama, called up the local media claiming responsibilty for the attack.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the attackers.
