Traffic constable held for taking bribe

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) A traffic constable who demanded Rs 500 in bribe from a mini bus operator in South Delhi was here arrested by the anti-corruption branch of the Directorate of Vigilance, police said.

Constable Dhanvir Singh was arrested in Saket following a complaint by the bus operator, Delhi police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old woman was arrested charges of betting from Seema Puri and police recovered Rs 2662 as stake money and betting slips from her.

In another success, a police team arrested a member of a robber's gang from Narela in north-west Delhi. A .32 bore pistol and one country made pistol with a live cartridge were also recovered from Savinder alias Chhota Raja, who was wanted in 12 cases of attempt to murder, robbery, abduction, rape and was booked under Arms Act also.

Police also claimed to have solved three case of robberies (in Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore) with the arrest of two members of an inter-state gang from Mehrauli. Stolen jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh, Rs 3,000 in cash, one cellular phone and two knives were recovered from the two, identified as Manoj Sharma and Tika Ram.

Meanwhile, three teenagers who had snatched away the purse of a woman in Dwarka on May 11 have been arrested, police said. The three were school students who had taken to crime to fulfill their expensive habits, the police press statement informed.
