Shimla district administration bans rallies, procession

Shimla, May 18 (UNI) The Shimla district administration has prohibited the holding of public meetings, taking out processions, rallies, demonstrations, shouting of slogans, playing of bands and carrying of objects that could be used as weapons in certain part of the state capital with immediate effect.

The orders, issued by Shimla District Magistrate SKBS Negi, would be applicable at the Mall road from Chotta Shimla up to Kennedy House and the Ridge, 150 metres on the approach road from Rendezvous restaurant to Rivoli cinema, and Sandal Point to Kali Bari temple.

The ban would also remain in force on link road from Chotta Shimla Chowk to Raj Bhawan to Oak Over, up to boundary building on Chotta Shimla-Kasumpati road, stairs and pedestrian path adjacent to Chotta Shimla Gurudawar leading to Kasumpati road, link road from Cart road to the HP Administrative Tribunal, from the road leading from AG office to cart road and CPWD office to Chaura Maidan.

Mr Negi said the orders would, however, not be applicable to the police, para-military and military personnel, while performing their duties and also on funeral processions and marriage parties.

The orders have been issued under Section 6 of the Punjab Security of State Act, 1953 as applicable to the state with a view to maintain public order and would remain in force for a period of two months, he added.
