R S condemns special grant to elite school for bureaucrats

New Delhi, May 18: Rajya Sabha today questioned the wisdom of the government in granting Rs 33 crores to a public school run by the wives of senior bureaucrats at a time when the Indian society is grappling with the reservation issue.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr Uday Pratap Singh, S P, said the newspapers have said that the public school 'Sanskriti' run by wives of senior bureaucrats was given Rs 33 crore and the school was meant for few children of high level bureaucrats. Moreover there was no transparency in running this school and there was no accountablity and the government was now proposing to give three more crore to this institution, he said quoting newspaper reports.

"Doling out money in this manner is an insult to democracy and the government and various ministries should not be wasting money in promoting such elitists schools," Mr Singh said. Many MPs associated themselves with Mr Singh by raising their hands.
