Rly Mobile Catering Services to pay service tax

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) Instructions have been issued for levying service tax on mobile catering services of Indian Railways at the prescribed rate and in the manner notified, the Lok Sabha was told today.

Minister of State for Railways R Velu said in a written answer that this was in compliance with the Ministry of Finance, department of Revenue Notification No 2/20006-Service Tax dated march 1, 2006.

The Minister said Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation and its licensees of on-board catering services have been told to collect the service tax as fixed by the Ministry of Finance and pass on the whole amount collected from the passengers to the authorities concerned under the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue.
