National e-governance plan approved: Cabinet

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) The Cabinet today gave the go-ahead signal to the key components of National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) proposals, including assigning the role and responsibility to various government entities (DIT, NIC, DAR and PG, Line Ministries and Departments and state governments.

The components also include formal assigning of tasks of the identified mission mode projects (MMPs) and support components under NeGP to various line ministries and departments.

The plan would be launched soon with a stated vision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

A programme management structure would be created for the NeGP, including constitution of a body under the chairpersonship of the Prime Minister.

The decision would provide a clear definition of roles and responsibilities for implementation of e-Governance projects.

There would be clear allocation of responsibility for individual projects to individual ministries and state departments.
