Junior doctors in Kanpur begin indefinite strike
Kanpur, May 18 (UNI) Junior doctors here went on an indefnite strike from last midnight in protest against the proposed OBC reservation policy.
Junior doctors of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College decided to go on strike after the statement of Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh's statement yesterday, in the Lok Sabha, to implement reservation in higher educational institutions.
On humanitarian grounds, they decided to attend to the patients already admitted to the hospital but stopped taking in more patients.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Indian Medical Association President T N Singh said doctors throughout the state will observe a one-day token strike on May 20.
Students from Kanpur University and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) here also unitedly protested yesterday and demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh intervene in the matter as the situation might go out of control if the adamant attitute of HRD Minister continued.
