New Delhi, May 18: A traders' delegation that met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Rajnath Singh today said it received the BJP's support for its demand that all barriers to inter-state trade be removed.

Domestic trade should be freed from all barriers and India should become a free trade zone, the Confederation of All India Traders quoted Mr Singh as saying.

According to a CAIT release, Mr Singh also said the BJP will oppose FDI in retail trade, claiming it would take India towards ''economic dependence.'' Mr Singh also promised support to Delhi traders on the sealing and demolition issue, the release added.

In its memorandum, the CAIT said internal trade of India was subject to more than 20 types of taxes and other laws and most of the laws being decades old needed abrogation or amendments.
