India to sign agreement with Bulgaria on convicts

New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) The Union Cabinet tonight gave its approval for signing an agreement with Bulgaria in regard to foreign convicted prisoners to be transferred to their home countries and prisoners of Indian origin brought to India to serve the remaining part of their sentence.

The decision would enable the prisoners to be near their families and would help in the process of their social rehabilitation, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons.

He said the cabinet gave its approval for signing of Memorandum Understanding (MoU) with Sudan in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. The agreement would be valid for a period two years with the approval of both the sides.

Dasmunsi said the agreement would be signed on June 2 during the visit to Sudan Agriculture Minister to India.

The cabinet also gave its clearance for signing separate agreement with Afghanistan and also with Poland for cooperation in the field of Tourism.
