Hisar, May 18 (UNI) Haryana Agriculture University (HAU) has developed four new and improved crop varieties and these have been released for general cultivation in the state.

The decision to release the varieties was taken in the meeting of State Seed Sub-Committee held here today. The meeting was chaired by the Financial Comissioner and Principal Secretary, Mrs Asha Sharma.

The crop varieties recommended for release include HJ 513 of jowar (maize), Haryana Kabuli Channa-2 of chickpea, H 1226 of American cotton and Hybrid HKRH-1 of paddy.

These varieties are better in yields and resistance against insects and diseases and better than the previously release varieties. The varieties apart from significantly increasing agriculture production of the state would also provide better economic returns to the farmers.

Elaborating about the characteristics of the crop varieties, Director of Research Dr B S Chhillar said that American cotton variety H- 1226 was most suitable for normal sown condition and its yield potential was also about 43 quintals per hectare. Secondly, it is early maturing and resistant to cotton leaf curl virus disease.
