Elections to Cooperatives soon: M Karunanidhi

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu May 18 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said elections to Cooperatives in the State will be held soon.

Addressing a thanks-giving public meeting at Tiruvarur near here last night Mr Karunanidhi said as promised in DMK manifesto he has signed the orders to supply rice at Rs two per kg, waived the cooperative loans of farmers and additional egg every week to children in noon-meal scheme, immediately after being sworn-in as Chief Minister.

He said the work related to supply of free colour TV, would commence from the birthday of rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy , which falls on September 17. September would mark the occasion for the party as the DMK founder C V Annadurai's birthday falls on September 15 and the party's foundation day on September 16, he added.

Mr Karunanidhi said land would be made available for cultivation to farmers and landless labourers.

DMK President lauded the reservation issue taken up by the Central Government.

The Chief Minister visited Kattur village near Thiruvarur and paid homage to his Mother's 'Samadhi'. He also visited his native place 'Thirukuvalai'.

The DMK Ministers Arcot N Veerasami, M K Stalin, M Ko Si Mani, K Ponmudi, K N Nehru and U Mathivanan, were among others, who accompanied Mr Karunanidhi.
