NEW YORK, May 18 (Reuters) Former US President Bill Clinton has agreed to write a book on citizen activism and service to be published by Alfred A. Knopf in a follow-up to his best-selling memoir of 2004.

The book publisher announced the deal on Wednesday, saying the book would come out in late 2007 or early 2008, when his wife, Sen.

Hillary Clinton, may be starting her own run at the presidency.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The book would discuss the work of the philanthropic Clinton Foundation, which Clinton founded after he left the White House in January 2001, and similar work performed by famous and unsung people around the globe, Knopf said.

Clinton's first book after leaving the White House, ''My Life,'' has sold more than 2 million copies in the United States and has been published in more than 30 other countries, Knopf said.

Alfred A. Knopf is the flagship imprint of the Knopf Publishing Group, a division of Random House Inc., whose parent company is Bertelsmann AG [BERT.UL], the German media giant.
