New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) A Central Institute of Technology (CIT) will be set up in Kokrajhar in Assam in fulfilment of the commitment made by the government in the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed with the Assam Government and the Bodo Liberation Tiger on February 10, 2003.

A decision to this effect was taken by a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here tonight.

The institute will be run by an autonomous registered society under Bodo Territorial Council (BTC), Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons here after the meeting.

The Institute will be fully funded by the Centre and would impart education in diploma level programmes in Electronics and communication engineering, computer engineering, instrumentation and control, horticulture and fashion technology, food procressing technology and Information technology, bio technology and bamboo technology.

To begin with, the institute would offer six vocational courses of three years duration, Mr Dasmunsi said, adding that it would give adequate preference to those courses that had enough local relevance and employability.
