Woman gets 7 year jail for trafficking
Howrah, May 17 (UNI) Second Fast Track Court Judge Shankar Acharya today awarded seven years imprisonment in addition to a fine of Rs 10,000 to Soma Biswas for trafficking a girl to a Mumbai redlight area under IPC 366A/372.
Soma Biswas, who was the girl's friend, had promised to get her employment in Mumbai and instead sold her in the red light area in 2005.
The girl, with the help of a customer, had complained to Mumbai police which in turn informed its counterpart in Shibpur.
Shibpur police rescued the girl on February 9, 2005 and Soma was also arrested.
A case was registered against Soma and after several hearings the final verdict was delivered today.
