Imphal, May 17 (UNI) About 50 trucks were stranded at the Manipur- Nagaland border today due to economic blockade called by the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM).

The blockade began yesterday to protest the alleged failure of the Manipur government to fulfill its demands.

The sudden declaration of the economic blockade has affected normal traffic in the area. However, movement of the passenger buses were not affected.

Transport operators said many trucks were coming from other states.

The ATSUM has demanded appointment of teachers for the educational institutes in the hilly areas.

It had called a blockade, which was called off after the state government assured to appoint the teachers.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has said that most of the teachers were appointed and the process would be completed within the next few days.
