Reservation issue: Medicos strike intensifies

Mysore, May 17: The medicos strike against the Centre's move to reserve 27 per cent of the seats in higher education for OBCs was intensified in the city yesterday with engineering students joining hands with them.

More than 2,000 post graduates and interns of the Mysore Medical College, Government College of Indian Medicine and JSS medical College assembled at the JK grounds and took out a protest march shouting slogans against Union Human Resources Minister Arjun Singh.

Expressing solidarity with them, students of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering and Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering joined the procession.

The agitators were seen sporting black badges and holding placards, demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision.

Outpatient services at the K R hospital were badly hit as junior doctors joined the agitation for the second day today. Doctors and Professors had to attend to outpatients.

Tension prevailed for some time at the outpatient wing when the hospital staff stopped issuing OPD slips. However, the situation was brought under control after doctors intervened and assured the patients that all of them would be treated.
