PM to dedicate Lohit Bridge to nation on June 10

Itanagar, May 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would inaugurate the Lohit Bridge over Lohit River at Brahmakund near Wakro in Arunachal's Lohit district during his visit to the state on June 10.

After inaugurating the bridge, the second longest in the state, Dr. Singh would arrive at the state capital and attend local programmes here and stay for a night before his departure to New Delhi the next day, official sources informed here today.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Gegong Apang, in a cabinet meeting on Monday, constituted a committee to supervise the arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit.

The chief minister along with Education Minister Chowna Mein, Finance Minister Kalikho Pul, Chief Secretary Tabom Bam and DGP Amod K Kanth yesterday visited the Brahmakund bridge site and Wakro, popularly known as the 'orange belt'.

While taking part in the 'on the spot discussion', the chief minister suggested construction of a new helipad near the bridge site to ensure safe and comfortable landing.

Lohit district Aditional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mr. R K Sharma informed that the bridge overseeing the famous and holy Parasuram Kund connectes two major districts of Lohit and Anjaw with the main land.

The super structure of the 410 meter long bridge is of pre-stressed balanced cantilever type and the piers are of inverted 'Y' type resting twin well foundation. The super structure casting was done by adopting cantilever construction method and involves high degree of technical knowledge and precision, he added.
