Minority Council up in arms against Da Vinci
Kolkata, May 17 (UNI) The West Bengal Minority Council (WBMC) today upped the ante against the screening of controversial movie the Da Vinci Code.
Shahansshan Jehangir, president of the WBMC in a statement termed the book as a ''repulsive'' work and said, '' The book advocates blasphemy of Jesus Christ as well as Islam since Muslims believe Christ as a Prophet. '' The book, which indicated that Jesus Christ did not die from crucifixion, and instead fled and got married to one of his disciples and led a happy conjugal life, was disturbing to the religious sentiments of the believers of God and detrimental to the communal harmony of the state, he added.
Mr Jehangir appealed to all peace loving citizens of the state to disown book and boycott the film in any manner.
He also demanded immediate administrative action to ensure a total ban on the entry of this book and the film in West Bengal failing which the WBMC would resort to pro-active actions to resist it.
'' We have also written to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi to ensure all administrative action to ban the sale of the book and to instruct the Censor Board of India not to issue a certificate to the film,'' '' he asserted.
