India Missions abroad speak Hindi
New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) Most of the work at Indian Embassies or High Commissions abroad is carried out in the official language of that particular country, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma told the Lok Sabha today.
However, within the Missions, most of the staff can speak and understand Hindi, he said in a written reply.
The Minister said Hindi was used for conversation within the Missions in dealing with Hindi speaking People of Indian Origin and Non-Resident Indians and also during official meetings within the Mission.
There were as many as 15 Missions with facilities for Hindi interpreters. Hindi stenographers and typists were available in 23 Mission and typewriters and software for computers have been provided in 40 Missions .
Books on Hindi language, literature, Indian history, art, culture and Hindi-English and English-Hindi dictionaries and books were sent to Indian Missions abroad every year by the Ministry, Mr Sharma added.
