Govt hospital services affected with doctors strike
Panaji, May 17 (UNI) The services in the referral Goa Medical College (GMC) has been affected today with resident doctors, interns and students observing a 24-hour token strike in protest against the lathicharge on their counterparts engaged in anti-quota agitation in the country.
The hospital authorities however, made alternative arrangements by engaging senior doctors, heads of the departments, consultants besides para-medical staff and others to attend to emergencies.
There are about 180 resident doctors, 100 interns and 300 medical students attached with the GMC. They took out procession from Panjim bus terminal to Azad Maidan in the city.
They had later held a demonstration at the GMC against the reservation policy besides condemning the lathicharge on medico students.
Police made tight security arrangements at the hospital to prevent any untoward incident.
