Expenses for slaughter house irk high court
Ranchi, 17 (UNI) The Jharkhand High Court today expressed serious concern over the requirement of Rs 15 crore for constructing a slaughter house in the state capital.
The court today even threatened to refer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the department concerned failed to justify such high expenses.
Hearing a PIL, the court directed the urban development secretary to appear before it on June 15 and explain why it needs Rs 15 crore to construct a slaughter house in the capital when Jamshedpur needs only Rs 93 lakh.
Taking serious note of such gross difference, a division bench, comprising Justice S J Mukhopadhyaya and Justice M Y Eqbal, passed the order, while hearing the PIL.
The court took serious note of it and observed that if the secretary failed to explain the expenses in question, then it would direct a CBI investigation and would take harsh action on the matter.
There is no slaughter house in Jharkhand and animals are slaughtered in the open without approval from veterinary doctor.
