CPI to lay siege on banks on May 31
Hyderabad, May 17 : The Andhra Pradesh unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) will lay siege to all commercial and co-operative banks on May 31 to demand the state government waive off the debts of farmers.
Talking to newsmen here, CPI state Secretary K Narayana said that 80 lakh, out of 97 lakh farmers in the state, mostly belonging to small farmer category, had facing bank debts.
He demanded the government to waive the debts of farmers immediately, otherwise the farmers would be forced to commit suicide due to the increasing burden.
He also urged the stae government to implement National Rural Employment Gurantee Programme (NREGP) in all districts and distribute pensions to all eligible.
Mr Narayana said the CPI would organise dharnas and demonstrations at all Mandal offices on June 5.
