Counterfeit notes racket busted in Ganganagar

Sriganganagar, May 17 (UNI) Intelligence agencies have been put on high alert after detection of counterfeit notes from Nepal recently.

Intelligence department officials have interrogated members of the gang, which brings fake Indian notes from Nepal. The police had arrested a couple along with five more members of the gang. One of the people held belongs to Haryana.

The police arrested the fifth member of the gang last night with fake currency notes worth Rs 7,000. A illegal pistol and two artillery rounds were seized from another arrested person.

According to sources, the case assumes importance as Ganganagar is located on the borders of Pakistan. The gang has been active in the region for the last six-seven months.

Army and Border Security Force (BSF) and Intelligence Bureau officials are interrogating the gang members Kapil alias Bitoo Singal, Bharatbhushan alias Kaka Agarwal, Raju alias Ravindra Chabbra and Raju's wife Harmesh Kumari for the past three days, separately. The police has arrested some of the people in this connection. Interrogations are currently on.

Police superintendent Saurav Srivastav said a gang member called Raju Khan alias Rajja Abbas Naqvi was arrested yesterday with counterfeit notes worth Rs 7,000, which were in denominations of Rs 1,000 each.

Mr Srivastva said Raju Khan deals in vegetables and fruits and he supplies Kinoo fruit from Ganganagar to other areas in the country.

The couple Harmesh Kumari and her husband Raju also deal in Kinoo fruit. Their same business brought these people closer. Later they got involved in the business of supplying counterfeit notes.

Mr Srivastav said Raju had made three-four rounds of Nepal in the past six months and brought fake notes worth Rs 60,000 and used them here.
