CET issue: Education Ministers to press for Central law
Bangalore, May 17 (UNI) Karnataka Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy today said he would lead a delegation of Southern states Ministries to New Delhi to pressurise the Centre to bring in a legislation to regulate CET admissions to professional colleges.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Shankaramurthy said he would immediately convene a meeting of Education Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra to discuss the issue. ''I am taking the initiative and will be convening the meeting within a week,'' he added.
''Only a Central legislation will help in clearing the present confusion prevailing in the conduct of the Common Entrance Test for admissions to professional colleges in the country,'' he said. The states needed to come together to pressurise the Centre in this regard.
The Supreme Court, in its judgement, had made a mention about the absense of such a Central law, he pointed out.
