BSNL to provide 10 lakh new mobile connections
Bhopal, May 17 (UNI) Public sector telecom behemoth BSNL will provide 10 lakh new mobile connections this year in Madhya Pradesh.
''One thousand new towers will be set up to meet the target and one lakh new connections will be doled out every month,'' BSNL (MP Circle) Chief General Manager R P Hans told reporters here on the occasion of the World Communication Day today.
He said rural areas will be accorded priority and mobile coverage will be available by the end of 2007 in every village having around 2,000 population.
''In order to connect villages with telecommunication, 7,000 gram panchayat telephones will be put up in place in the current fiscal,'' he said.
Besides, all the present MARR telephones will be converted into WLL telephones.
The CGM said 1.20 lakh new B Phone connections had been distributed in the last fiscal taking the total number of BSNL consumers to 14 lakh.
He said single-window facility had been started at the customer care centre for the benefit consumers.
The proposal to distribute telephone bills via courier is being discussed as a solution for complaints of not receiving telephone bills on time.
The BSNL had decided to give special attention to expansion of telecommunication services to handicapped people and cyber security.
