3 held for murder of army JCO during riots

Vadodara, May 17 (UNI) Police here today arrested three youths in connection with the murder of an army JCO during the recent rioting in the Yakutpura area of the city on May 1.

Naib Subedar Ramchandra Meena (40) was stabbed to death while he was returning home on leave from Punjab. He was posted at Patiala in Punjab.

Police inspector Digvijaysinh Vaghela identified the three arrested as Wasim alias Jinat Gulamrasool Pahelwan, Raffiuddin alias Geta Karim Saiyyad and Javed Mohammed Sheikh. All the three are in their early 20s.

Mr Vaghela claimed that the three had confessed to the crime.

However, the weapons used by the miscreants are yet to be recovered, Mr Vaghela said.

Meanwhile, return of normalcy in the city has prompted authorities to lift the curfew from Panigate area of the city.

Curfew in other areas had been lifted earlier.

An indefinite curfew was imposed across half of the city on May 1 after violence erupted following demolition of a 200-year-old ''dargah' by the civic body. Six people were killed and over 60 injured in the violence.
