Strike affects life in Manipur
Imphal, May 16 (UNI) Normal life in Manipur was affected today due to a strike called by the working committee of the Apunba Lup (WCAL) to protest the killing of Chuireiwon, a nineteen year old girl, by Bishnupur police on May 9 in Thoubul.
All shops were closed down in the state to protest the killing.
Educational institutes were also closed.
The WCAL had appealed to the people to stage sit in protest and cease work as a mark of protest to the violations of human rights.
Family members of the deceased woman, however, took over the body last evening after the Chief Minister assured to start an inquiry headed by DIG M Karnajit, to be completed within 15 days.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Katmanao Saklong, which had also called a highway blockade, called off the stir and cautioned that it might resume the stir if the inquiry was not satisfying.
