Senior port official arrested for accepting bribe

New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) The Chief Port Administrator at Port Blair has been caught by the CBI while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the agent of a Shipping Company for issuing a ''Port Clearance Certificate''.

N Dhilleshwar Rao, Chief Port Administrator (Port Management Board, Andaman&Nicobar Islands) at Port Blair, was arrested yesterday while receiving the first installment of the Rs one lakh 'deal', according to the CBI.

The deal also included providing a certificate as to whether the signal was provided 24 hours before the casualty required for processing of insurance claim of the shipping agent, who was also the complainant.

The claim was to be made in respect of one of the ships, of the shipping agent, which sank on April 27 this year.

Documents showing investments in huge assets were seized during searches conducted at the residential premises of the accused at Port Blair and Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
