Sehrunissa guilty of perjury, sentenced to 3 months RI
Mumbai, May 16 (UNI) A special court here today convicted Zahira Sheikh's mother Sehrunissa and sentenced her to three months rigorous imprisonment holding her guilty of giving false evidence during the retrial into the Best Bakery carnage case here.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 500 upon Sehrunissa failure to pay which would entail a further ten days rigorous imprisonment.
Pronouncing the verdict here today, additional sessions judge Abhay Thipsay said the court had provided two opportunities to Sehrunissa to tell the truth. Yet, she had given false evidence.
The court, therefore, convicted her under Section 344 of the CrPC and sentenced her to suffer three months rigorous imprisonment together with a fine of Rs 500.
Judge Thipsay observed that the accused had been tutored by somebody to give false statement and mislead the court.
The court, however, granted her a month's time to challenge the verdict in the upper court and was released on a personel bond.
