Rs 265.70 crores being spend on electricity in south Kashmir

Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) Under several central sponsored schemes, the Jammu and Kashmir government is spending Rs 265.70 crores to improve supply to electricity in South Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Pulwama, an official spokesman said .

He said the 40 MVA and 50 MVA Grid Stations at Kulgam and Mattan are nearing completion at an estimated cost of Rs 26.45 crore. On completion, these stations would benefit 70,000 consumers of 120 villages of the twin districts of Pulwama and Anantnag.

He said this information was given to the Minister for Power, Nawang Rigzin Jora at a meeting held at Anantnag today.

The meeting was told that under Prime Minister's Economic package, work is apace on 300 MVA Mirbazar, 50 MVA Larkipora and 50 MVA Shopian grid stations with an expenditure of Rs 81.81 crore in these districts.

The laying of 220 KV Zainakot-Alasteing- Mirbazar, 132 KV Larkipora and 132 KV Lassipora-Shopian transmission lines is currently going on at an estimated cost of Rs 131.66 crore. Of this, Rs 19.80 crore have been utilized for the purpose till March last. It was given out that under ADRP, Rs 25.78 crore have been expended for upgrading of the distribution system in Anantnag and Pulwama. Seven Receiving Stations have been upgraded while work is in full swing on another 14 such stations.

He was told that about 200 new distribution sub-stations have been created while 250 such stations are under progress.

Revenue of Rs 38.66 crore was realized from consumers as power tariff in these districts during last fiscal year.

Addressing the meeting, the Minister exhorted upon the engineers to redouble their efforts for improving power distribution and asked them to take measures for expediting the installation of meters.
