Recruitment of foreign labour in Oman to be more stringent

Dubai, May 16 (UNI) All recruitment of foreign labour into Oman will soon have to go through a stringent process and routed through official channels, an official has said.

He said manpower recruiting agencies would soon be regulated with the stipulation that they should have a presence in the country from where labour is recruited.

They will be asked to provide bank guarantees and assure government agencies that the worker is the right person for the job.

The prospective employee would have to be screened at the local offices of manpower agencies in the country of worker's origin, the official told Times of Oman.

The stipulation of a bank guarantee of Omani riyals 50,000 (Rupees five million) would leave the business only to genuine agencies, he said.

The onus would be on the manpower agencies, which should provide guarantee on the genuineness of the work force and bear responsibility of sending back the workers to their home countries, he added.
