Pro-reservationists demonstrate to support Arjun
New Delhi, May 16: After the anti-reservation demonstrations pro-reservationists have taken to the streets with the OBC Mahapanchayat today holding a demonstration at the Jantar Mantar here in support of the reservation policy.
Demanding immediate implementaion of the decision to give 27 per cent reservation in institutions of higher learning as announced by the Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh, the 'Mahapanchayat' urged the government to avoid delay in the matter, claiming that this could lead to further complications.
Calling the protests against the policy as ''anti-people,'' the 'Mahapanchayat' said the argument that reservation would affect quality was ''baseless, illogical and uncalled for.'' Supporting the same cause, the Delhi State unit of All India Pasamanda Muslim Mahaj also held demonstration at the Jantar Mantar here.
The demonstrators said reservation was mandatory to bring equality in society.
Meanwhile, the All India Minorities Front (AIMF) today demanded that government take action against striking doctors and students, all over the country, for violating Supreme Court orders that no strike was permitted in hospitals.
In a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the AIMF also demanded that areas being 'encroached' by striking doctors be cleared.
