Poachers gun down elephant for ivory
Madikeri, May 16 (UNI) A 20-year-old elephant has been reportedly shot dead by poachers for its ivory at Kumbaragadige forests near Somwarpet in this district of Karnataka.
Police said the Forest department at Somwarpet stated that poachers had shot dead the pachyderm and stolen its ivory.
The officials had found the carcass of the animal in the estate of one Motaiah five days ago. They burnt it after conducting an autopsy, the police added.
A search was on to nab the culprits.
