Kupwara, May 16 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today sought to downplay differences in the ruling coalition, saying the PDP-Congress alliance was value based and had significance at both the state and the national level, and was in the larger interest of the people and the country.

Addressing a public meeting here, he expressed satisfaction over the performance of the ruling alliance and cautioned leaders of both the parties to defect nefarious designs of vested interests out to creat confusion and hell-bent upon jeopardising the peace process.

Mr Sayeed, who is the PDP chief patron, appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in building nationwide consensus on the resolution of the vexed Kashmir problem by starting a composite dialogue process and initiating confidence building measures.

He appealed to the leadership of the two countries that the resolution of the Kashmir issue need to take care of the aspirations of the people of all regions of the state.

Any solution should further strengthen the state's unique character and constitutional status, the former Chief Minister said.
