Kathmandu, May 16 (UNI) Large crowds of pro-democracy supporters today took to the streets to pressurise Nepal's Parliament to immediately pass the political presentation aiming to clip the King's powers and bring the Army under the civilian government.

As a mark of protest, they burnt tyres and halted transport in Kalanki area, one of the main entry points to Kathmandu, demanding the proclamation, which cuts the powers of the king and empowers Parliament, should be passed immediately.

The protestors also shouted slogans against former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who reportedly opposed the plan of taking away the title of 'supreme commander' of the army from the king.

People affiliated to the civil society and various political parties demonstrated after the seven parties deferred announcement of the House proclamation yesterday.

Some of the leaders attending the meeting yesterday said the delay was due to the objection of Deuba.

The proposed proclamation brings royal Nepal army under parliament, changes the army's name from royal Nepal to Nepal army, His majesty's government to Nepal Government, and all the decision regarding the royal palace will be done by Parliament.

Meanwhile, Maoists chief Prachand has said that the government should form the talks team soon.

The Maoists have said that Prachand himself will lead the talks team from the insurgents side.

The government has not formed the talks team yet.
