Narayanan to dedicate Marakkar stupa
Kozhikode, May 16 (UNI) National Security Advisor M K Narayanan will dedicate to the nation 'Kunhali Marakkar Memorial Stupa' at Iringal Kottakkal near here tomorrow.
Southern Naval Command's Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice-Admiral S C S Bangara will be present at the function to dedicate the Stupa, built in memory of Kunhali Marakkar, who valiantly resisted the Portugese on high seas, a press release said here today.
The Kerala Government had taken steps to preserve a small house associated with the Kunhali lineage at village Iringal between Payyoli and Vadakara in Kozhikode district and later converted that into a museum, housing artifacts of the Kunhali era.
The Navy, as part of its efforts to enthuse the people to pay greater heed to the maritime legacy, constructed the Stupa within the precincts of the museum's compound.
