MRDA, MRA lax in desilting Mithi River: Somaiya
Mumbai, May 16 (UNI) Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya today alleged that the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority and the Mithi River Authority (MRA) were showing laxity in desilting the Mithi River.
He, however, appreciated the efforts put in by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in desilting the river.
Talking to reporters, Mr Somaiya said 12,98,000 cubic meters of silt and mud is to be removed from Mithi river. The BMC has removed 557,000 cubic meters.
He said the MMRDA had entrusted the desilting work to three contractors who, however, have been able to remove only 290,000 cubic meters of silt so far. The MMRDA, he said, had contracted removal of 408,000 cubic metres of silt against its commitment to the court to remove 740,964 cubic metres. He sought to know who would carry out the further cleansing work.
