India, Iran agree to cooperate in water sector

Dubai, May 16 : Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz has said bilateral agreement between India and Iran has beeen reached to facilitate technical and scientific exchange in the water sector.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Iran's Minister of Energy Parviz Fattah, Mr Soz said given the recent agreements, his country would exchange expertise with Iran.

He said India is advanced in water resource management and is seriously engaged in environmental and water issues, according to a report in ''Tehran Times'' today.

''Iran's initiatives and innovations in exploiting water reservoirs account for its brilliant historical experience in the sector,'' he added.

The minister was in Tehran to attend the fourth Urban Water Management Centre's Government Council meeting.
