HC orders status quo in eviction of tribals from Aralam
Kochi, May 16 (UNI) A Division Bench of the the Kerala High Court today ordered to maintain status quo in evicting the tribals now occupied in the blocks earmarked for the resettlement of tribals in the Aralam farm in Kannur district.
The Bench comprising Mr Justice K Thankappan and Mr Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan issued this interim directive on a writ petition filed by C K Janu, general secretary of the Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha.
The prayer in the petition was for a direction to prevent the Government and Revenue authorities from evicting the tribals occupying the Aralam farm.
The Petitioner submitted that as per the agreement dated July 20, 2002, the Government ensured lands for the resettlement of tribals in Aralam farm and strict compliance of the said agreement was to be ensured.
She also prayed that the allotment of land should be made after publishing draft list ensuring transparency in the allotment.
