Haryana govt distributes wheat, rice to BPL families

Chandigarh, May 16 (UNI) The Haryana government has distributed 80,823 metric tonnes of wheat as an essential commodity among the beneficiaries in the state in the month of April, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said here today.

He said that those living below the poverty line (BPL) were given 13,345 metric tonnes of wheat at a rate of Rs 4.84 per kg. They were also given 25 kg wheat on each ration card.

He said that 59,161 metric tonnes of wheat was distributed among those living above the poverty line. They were also given 25 kg of wheat per ration card per month at a rate of Rs 6.86 per kg.

Mr Chander Mohan who also holds the Food portfolio said that 8317 metric tonnes of wheat was given to the beneficiaries of Antodya Ann Yojna (AAY) at a rate of Rs 2.10 per kg. Those in this category were also given 35 kg wheat on each ration card per month.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government had also distributed 31,075 metric tonnes of rice to the beneficiaries in the state. He said that about 25,356 metric tonnes of rice was distributed among the beneficiaries of above poverty line and they were given the rice at a rate of Rs 9.15 per kg.

He said that 5719 metric tonnes of rice was given to the beneficiaries of below poverty line at a rate of Rs 6.40 per kg per ration card per month and they were given 10 kg rice against each ration card per month.

He said that 996 metric tonnes of sugar was also allocated to the beneficiaries in the month of April. He said that the sugar was being made available only to those beneficiaries who were living below the poverty line and AAY families.
