New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) The BJP Parliamentary Party today decided to oppose the introduction of the Parliament Disqualification Amendment Bill, also known as Office of Profit Bill, at the introductory stage itself because it sought to ''destroy the very spirit and soul of the Constitution''.

A decision to this effect was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting presided over by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This move of the BJP follows the decision of the NDA leaders who announced their intention to oppose the Bill tooth and nail last night.

The UPA was seeking to amend the Bill just to save certain MPs occupying such posts and the BJP is totally opposed to it, BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said while speaking to mediapersons.

A delegation of BJP MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to intimate him about the decision of the NDA and the BJP ahead of the Parliament sitting.

The party also decided to raise the issue of wheat import which is driving the farmers to commit suicides.

Around Rs 1,000 a quintal is being paid for the wheat, which is against the minimum support price offered to them. Moreover this food grain is unfit for consumption because it is laced with weed seeds, capable of harming the health and environment and of the southern states, Mr Malhotra claimed adding the act of the government is a breach of trust reposed by the farmers.
