Bio-technology Board constituted in UP

Lucknow, May 16 (UNI) To synergise biotech research and industry, Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Bio-technology Board chaired by state chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The Board aims to allow the benefits of bio-technology research percolate to the common man under the UP Bio-technology Policy, 2004.

Principal secretary science and technology Sunanda Prasad said here today the bio-technology was capable of bringing about positive transformation in the lives of people just like the information technology.

Senior government officials, representatives of industrial and financial institutions and prominent scientists working in the field of bio-technology have been nominated in the Board.

The various financial institutions on the Board include SIDBI, SBI, NABARD, apart from Balrampur Sugarmills MD Vivek Sarogi; J P Group MD Manoj Gaud; National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow, director Rakesh Tuli; Central Drug Reserach Institute (CDRI), Lucknow director C M Gupta; and Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar of the Centre for Bio-technology, JNU, New Delhi.

Talking to UNI here, Dr Tuli said the Board would discuss ways to give impetus to bio-technology in UP and forge front linkages with the industry.

''Several such issues would be taken up for deliberations at the first meeting of the Board'' he informed.
