Two-day Intl. Scientific Conf. on Bird Flu

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) Scientists from all over the world will meet in Rome on May 30 to discuss the role of wild birds in spreading highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu.

The two-day ''International Scientific Conference on Avian Influenza and Wild Birds'' is being organised by United Nations agency of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and OIE, the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The Purpose of the conference is to exchange scientific information on AI and the role of wild birds, to assess the risk of introduction of HPAI to uninfected areas and to discuss preventive measures.

The latest scientific findings on subjects such as the risk posed by HPAI to humans and to domestic poultry will be presented at the meeting, while the question of disease management will also be discussed, according to a FAO release received here today.
