Three shot dead in panchayat polls violence in Bihar

Hajipur, May 15 (UNI) Three people were shot dead while two others, including a circle officer, injured in a shootout between two rival groups at a panchayat polling booth in Bihar's Vaishali district today.

Police said the firing took place at Majhauli village under Vaishali police station area when a group of people tried to prevent voters to exercise their franchise in the panchayat elections.

Three people were killed on the spot in the shootout.

One of the deceased was identified as Rakesh Kumar while the identity of the rest was yet to be ascertained.

Circle officer Asutosh Kumar and his driver Allauddin, who were on duty, were injured in the incident. They were admitted to a local hospital.

The District Magistrate and the Police Superintendent have rushed to the spot.
