Surat medical students plans hunger strike
Surat, May 15 : Medical students of Government Medical College and Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) here will start an indefinite hunger strike from tomorrow, if the Central government does not withdraw from its proposed reservation in the higher education system.
Today the students are observing a ''symbolic strike'' to protest against the police action against the pro-reservation activists in the metro cities.
However, student leaders informed that they would not refrain from providing regular service to the hospitals.
President of Intern Medical Students Association, SMIMER, Jitendra Sotavadiya, said, ''If the government is not reconsidering its policy the students would begin a hunger strike from tomorrow in front of Surat collectorate.'' The student leaders claimed that they have the support of resident doctors also.
