Sensex recovers partly after fall of 147 pts in opening move

Mumbai, May 15 (UNI) The key indices of the premier stock exchanges traded lower at the start of a new week as investors booked profit.

BSE Sensex traded 70 points lower at 12,214 points at 1138 hrs as compared to the last close of 12,285 on Friday.

The NSE Nifty index traded 15 points lower at 3,635 points at 1127 hrs as compared to the last close of 3,650 points.

Earlier, the Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) opened 13 points lower at 12,272 points as compared to the last close of 12,285 and dipped 147 points to a low of 12,138 points.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index opened higher at 3,651 points as compared to the last close of 3,650.05 point but dipped to a low of 3,601.45 points.

Suzlon Energy announced the fourth quarter results showing a rise in profit by 122 per cent to Rs 360 crore as compared to the same quarter last year. Suzlon scrip was up by 2.19 per cent at Rs 1,349 per share at around 1140 hrs.

Sectorwise, smallcap scrips were in demand with 1.30 per cent rise in the BSE smallcap index.

BSE Metal index was down maximum of 2.27 per cent and BSE Oil&Gas index was down by 1.13 per cent. The top gainers on the 30 share Sensex were HDFC, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, Tata Motors, NTPC, ACC, Dr Reddy's Lab, Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, Cipla.

The top losers on the Sensex were Hindalco, Tata Steel, Grasim Industries, HDFC Bank, Reliance, Bharti Tele, ONGC, HLL, Larsen&Toubro and ICICI Bank.

Market sentiments were down after Rs 1,199 crore foreign fund outflow reported on Thursday by market regulator SEBI.
