SC issues notices to Bihar

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to the state of Bihar on a petition filed by former chairman of Bihar Public Service Commmission, Ram Singhasan Singh challenging Patna High Court's order rejecting him bail in a case related to illegal appointments.

The petitioner is in jail since December 2005 for his alleged involvement in making appointments after taking bribe and forging the documents.

The allegations against the petitioner are that he appointed a person to the post of the director whose bachelor's degree in Physical Education was obtained from a University in Bihar which is not recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC).

The counsel for the petitioner pleaded that prosecution proceedings were vitiated as there was no sanction obtained from the state under section 197 CrPC.

The counsel also pleaded that no case under the Prevention of Coruption Act was made out against the petitioner.

The apex court posted the hearing of the matter for July after vacations.
