SC dismisses sentenced FB MP's petition to attend Parliament
New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed Forward Bloc MP Bir Singh Mahato's petition, who has been sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonmemt in a rape case, seeking permission to attend the ongoing session of Parliament.
A vacation bench comprising Justices B P Singh and R V Raveendran dismissed the petition by Mahato's counsel seeking immediate directions to the state of West Bengal to permit him to attend the ongoing session of Parliament.
Mahato, an MP from Purulia in West Bengal, was sentenced by the trial court on Saturday after he was found guilty of rape of a girl, who was kept in illegal confinement by the co-accused, who have also beeen convicted and sentenced.
