Paswan to open Steel Outlook Conference tomorrow
New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) A two-day Steel Outlook Conference which will provide a general global overview of the steel sector, regional developments and negotiations at the WTO opens here tomorrow.
Union Minister for Chemical/Ferlitizers and Steel Ram Vilas Paswan will open the meet being jointly organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Brussels-based International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), in association with the Steel Ministry.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD will be leading a delegation on behalf of his organisation. Representatives from the governments and the steel industries from over 30 countries will attend the event.
Apart from nearly 120 overseas participants, the Ministry has also invited representatives from the domestic steel sector, their associations, major industrial associations, related government departments and financial institutions.
The conference is an outgrowth of the high-level work initiated under the aegis of the OECD Committee in September 2001. In its meeting in June 2004, participants had agreed that developments in the steel markets around the world needed close attention. It had felt that periodic exchange of information and assessment of the evolving conditions in the steel sector globally would be highly beneficial.
